Annual Dinner Dance Fundraiser Honored David Arquette and Raised over $460,000

On Saturday May 1, 2010, St. Joseph Center held its 25th annual Dinner Dance and Auctions gala at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. The event, the Center’s largest of the year, raised over $460,000 to support its programs for low-income and homeless men, women, and children on the Westside. The night, in part, honored actor, writer, director and producer David Arquette with the Center’s “Hope Through Empowerment” award and featured a lineup that included a special musical performance by Katharine McPhee and celebrity emcee Samantha Harris. The evening’s theme, “Voices of Hope”, continued with a Special Recognition Award presented to Center client Keisha Woods.

St. Joseph Center’s Executive Director, Dr. Va Lecia Adams, proudly states, “Tonight we had a wonderful time celebrating the spirit of hope that makes St. Joseph Center successful.” She continues, “we are so happy to have the opportunity to recognize both individuals such as Keisha Woods who have benefitted from our services as they rebuild their lives and people like David Arquette who help make our services possible through generous contributions of time and resources.”

Arquette works on many levels to eradicate hunger in his own community and across the country. He regularly volunteers at St. Joseph Center’s food pantry and also advocates for nationwide change as the chairperson of the Entertainment Council for Feeding America, the country’s top facilitator of donations from food producers to regional food banks.

Prominent friends and family were on hand to support the evening including Arquette’s wife Courteney Cox, siblings Richmond and Alexis Arquette, and good friends Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher. Video messages from David’s sister Patricia Arquette and friend Paul Reubens were screened congratulating the activist for his outstanding efforts. Others in attendance also included singer Kimberley Locke, actors Alex Kingston and Greg Germann as well as Mars Foods USA President and Feeding America board member Vincent Howell and LA Regional Food Bank CEO Michael Flood.

The “Wishlist” portion of the night, which raises funds for a specific program, set a new record by bringing in more than $140,000 for St. Joseph Center’s Bread and Roses Café, which serves hot meals to homeless individuals in a dignified, restaurant-style environment.
