Promise Kept: Charles and Irie Secured Permanent Housing
After experiencing homelessness and living in their car, Charles and his daughter Irie found stability through housing support, employment assistance, and determination. Today they are permanently housed and building a brighter future together.
During Client Appreciation Day, we honored clients like Charles and Irie, whose progress reflects what community support and partnership make possible every day.
More than three years ago, Charles and his daughter were facing homelessness and living out of their car. As a single father, Charles was determined to create a more stable future for his family.
A Promise Kept
When St. Joseph Center entered their lives, Charles accepted support and began working with his case manager, Crystal. Through housing assistance, employment support, and his own determination, he secured a stable job and started building a path forward.
“I told her I wouldn’t give up. We will have a home.”
The journey was not without setbacks, but Charles stayed focused on the promise he made to his daughter.
Today, Charles and Irie are permanently housed in Long Beach and moving forward together. Irie, now a teenager, shares a close bond with her father. When asked what she loves most about him, she smiled and said, “He knows teenage words.”
As part of 50 Stories for 50 Years of Impact, Charles and Irie’s story is a reminder that stable housing creates the foundation families need to rebuild, grow, and thrive.
