Monthly Donor Spotlight: The Heaneys and the Power of Partnership
Hope and Steve Heaney have anchored their 40-year marriage on shared values of respect and dignity. As St. Joseph Center celebrates 50 years of impact, we honor their enduring commitment—monthly donors who continue to give from their new home in Philadelphia. Their reliable, long-distance support fuels programs like Bread & Roses Café and exemplifies what it means to treat the whole person, not just the circumstance.
Giving with Purpose
As St. Joseph Center celebrates 50 years of impact, we are honored to share the enduring commitment of Hope and Steve Heaney, a couple who have anchored their 40-year marriage on shared values of respect and dignity.
The heart of their generosity is best exemplified by the fact that even after moving from Los Angeles to Philadelphia last year, their support for St. Joseph Center has not paused. Their reliable, long-distance participation in our monthly donor program is a powerful testament to the mission of restoring dignity.
The Heaneys’ journey with us began in 2013.
“We saw people experiencing homelessness every day,” Hope shared, “and we chose St. Joseph Center because the wide range of services showed us you treat the whole person, not just the circumstance.”
What Inspired Their Support
During a site tour, Hope and Steve witnessed our Hope Through Empowerment model firsthand, particularly at Bread & Roses Café.
Steve was especially struck by the attention to dignity woven throughout the program.
“The white tablecloths are so important. It’s about treating people like they are important. It’s not just about a meal. It’s about providing rigorous training so people can go out and get a job.”
Hope was equally inspired by the dedication and adaptability of St. Joseph Center’s staff.
“We were so impressed by how the organization pivoted and everyone stepped up during the pandemic. That flexibility and pride in their work shows us our investment is sound.”
Why Monthly Giving Matters
For the Heaneys, recurring support provides the flexibility organizations need to respond to changing community needs while sustaining critical programs over time.
Steve noted that consistency is one of the greatest strengths of monthly giving.
“A monthly donation best supports the staff’s ability to prioritize their expenditures and meet complex operational needs.”
Even from across the country, Hope and Steve continue to invest in the mission and values that first inspired them more than a decade ago.
Thank you, Hope and Steve, for your reliable support and for demonstrating the lasting impact of monthly giving.
