Cassie
Cassie’s journey to overcoming homelessness is a powerful testament to resilience. Living with a disability since childhood, she refuses to let it define her. Even simple tasks, like combing her hair, presented painful challenges. A dedicated mother to her nine-year-old son, Cassie endured hardships living on Skid Row.
Cassie faced housing instability, but her determination remained strong. She pursued and achieved her Associate’s Degree, demonstrating her commitment to education. However, life continued to throw her unexpected curveballs.
Navigating a complex justice system and a temporary separation from her child, Cassie’s resilience never wavered. While pursuing her Associate’s Degree, she relentlessly advocated for herself. Working in collaboration with one of our many service partners, Cassie was housed at St. Joseph Center’s Ramona family housing the same day. At Ramona, Cassie found more than a place to stay. She received a foundation to rebuild her life.
“I didn’t expect everything to be brand new. They put a welcome mat out,”
Cassie shared, highlighting gratitude for her case manager, Talisha, and the welcoming environment provided.
Cassie is actively pursuing work and educational opportunities. She’s determined to become a counselor and is passionate about using her experience to help others. Cassie’s story is one of empowerment.
“I’m so grateful and want to thank St. Joseph Center. Things came around full circle,” she expressed. I got more than what I expected.”
