Monthly Donor Spotlight: The Heaneys and the Power of Partnership
As St. Joseph Center celebrates 50 years of impact, we are honored to share the enduring commitment of Hope and Steve Heaney, a couple who have anchored their 40-year marriage on shared values of respect and dignity.
The heart of their generosity is best exemplified by the fact that even after moving from Los Angeles to Philadelphia last year, their support for St. Joseph Center has not paused. Their reliable, long-distance participation in our monthly donor program is a powerful testament to the mission of restoring dignity.
The Heaneys’ journey with us began in 2013.
“We saw people experiencing homelessness every day,” Hope shared, “and we chose St. Joseph Center because the wide range of services showed us you treat the whole person, not just the circumstance.”
During a site tour, they witnessed our Hope Through Empowerment model firsthand, particularly at Bread & Roses Café.
“The white tablecloths are so important—it’s about treating people like they are important. It’s not just about a meal—it’s about providing rigorous training so people can go out and get a job,” Steve recalled.
Hope was also inspired by our team’s dedication:
“We were so impressed by how the organization pivoted and everyone stepped up during the pandemic—that flexibility and pride in their work shows us our investment is sound.”
Steve noted that this consistency is key:
“A monthly donation best supports the staff’s ability to prioritize their expenditures and meet complex operational needs.”
Thank you, Hope and Steve, for your reliable support and for showing us the real difference a monthly donation can make.
