Annalise
Originally hailing from Boise, Idaho, and with a proud Danish heritage, Annalise “Lise” Shaw began her dedicated volunteer work at St. Joseph Center seven years ago at her son’s suggestion. What started as a six-month trial is now approaching its seventh year this Fall, a testament to her enduring commitment to the community.
Drawing upon her background as an operating room and flight nurse in the Air Force, including service in Desert Storm, Annalise brought a strong sense of care and a desire for community engagement to her service at Bread and Roses Café and the Food Pantry. Lise emphasizes the simple yet profound impact of human connection, stating, “It doesn’t take much, especially at Bread and Roses Café, to help people have a better day. Just saying hello and asking how they’re doing – they really like it.”
During the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lise played a crucial role in delivering essential food to those in need, interactions she recalls as immensely fulfilling. As a dedicated volunteer at both the Bread and Roses Café and the Food Pantry, Lise finds immense joy in connecting with clients. “Honestly, it’s the people more than anything,” she shares, highlighting the deep personal connection she feels. For Annalise, volunteering transcends mere giving back; it’s fundamentally about building meaningful relationships and fostering a stronger community within the Food Pantry and Café. She passionately encourages others to experience the transformative power of volunteering firsthand in these vital programs.
