Carol
St. Joseph Center proudly celebrates Chef Carol, a shining example of transformation and giving back. Carol’s journey with St. Joseph Center began after her release from prison, when her Residential Rehabilitation Center (RRC) case manager guided her to the Bread and Roses Training Kitchen. Graduating in August 2023, Carol found more than just culinary skills; she discovered a supportive community that enriched her life and offered an opportunity to give back, something essential to her healing process.
Earlier this year, Carol volunteered with our community partner, Dulan’s restaurant, where she prepared meals for those affected by the Altadena and Pasadena wildfires—a testament to her ongoing commitment to serving. Getting emotional during the conversation, Carol shared,
“Bread and Roses was a miracle.”
She also emphasized that the Café felt like family. She cherished the opportunity to cook for and serve meals to people in a humane setting, making them feel important.
For Chef Carol, the joy lies in being part of a dedicated group and connecting with others, both fellow volunteers and the people she serves. She believes that food brings people together, provides a sense of purpose, and leads to improved sleep.
