Bread & Roses Training Kitchen is a tuition free vocational training program for low income adults to prepare for gainful careers in the food industry throughout Los Angeles. Under the guidance of a Professional Chef in a state of the art culinary kitchen, candidates are taught Culinary Arts – learning restaurant and industry best practices, kitchen math, nutrition, preparation techniques, menu development and up to date cooking methods.

The evolving culinary curriculum ensures that students are grounded in industry emerging trends in food preparation, tools, methods and nutrition. There is a high emphasis on professional development, with students developing resumes, and improving their professional soft skills.

The 12 week intensive curriculum and practical skills training prepares economically disadvantaged adults for the rigors of a career in food service. Job placement assistance is provided, with connections and referrals to restaurants and partners.

Since 2017 86% of graduates have found employment using their culinary skill set in the food sector. Most common jobs attained: Line Cooks & Prep Cooks.

Supportive Services:

The program ensures that barriers to sustained employment are addressed and provides comprehensive supportive services, case management, mental health support and problem solving interventions designed to intervene and support each students’ forward momentum toward employment and self-sufficiency.

Wrap around services and preemptive case management ensure that students remain engaged throughout the program, can graduate and move into entry level positions within the food industry.
